Street League has grown rapidly since its inception in 2001: this financial year they will have offered services to over 2,000 people.  The organisation currently operates in London and Glasgow where they work in partnership with 60 organisations.  The leadership team has ambitions to be the leading national player in the area of engagement of homeless and other disadvantaged people through sport, with the aim of bringing those people back into the labour market.  The impetus for our involvement is that Street League has a unique delivery model that succeeds not only in reaching out and engaging a group of individuals who are traditionally very hard to engage with but has a track record in progressing those people beyond this stage, developing their skills and building up their ability to re-access mainstream education and even the employment market. The successful replication of the London operation in Glasgow demonstrates the scalability of the model and the potential for further expansion.

Key Objectives agreed with Impetus (2008-2009)

Impetus is partnering with Street League initially for 12 months with a view to making a longer term investment at the end of the planning process.*

The key objectives are to support Street League in its national scale-up to become a leading national player in the area of engagement of homeless and other disadvantaged people through sport, with the aim of bringing those people back into the labour market.

 - Define the scale-up model and develop a detailed scale-up plan

 - Strengthen the organisation’s capability

*We moved from a one staged investment approach to a 2 stage investment approach in January 2008. We believe it will help to ensure that the investment process is more stringent and greater focus is given to develop a strategy for the charity.
