Camfed had developed a compelling model of educational support for rural girls from poor backgrounds in Sub-Saharan Africa. Camfed enables rural girls – traditionally excluded from completing their schooling – to be placed at the centre of their community’s concern, thereby raising the girls’ social and economic status. The impetus for our involvement was to support Camfed in developing and replicating its model in new countries and develop a fundraising strategy to underpin its ambitious growth plans.

To enable Camfed to be recognised internationally as a “gold standard” for social change in rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, by:

Achieving a turnover of £10 million (from £2m in 2005) which would support the growth from four to seven countries over four years

  • Developing a sustainable and scalable model within the existing country programmes
  • 53% average growth in annual revenue over the last two years
  • Development work underway for entry into fifth country (Malawi) Fundraising strategy review completed to coincide with the Financial Times seasonal appeal in December 2007
  • Key performance indicators reviewed and refined
