The impetus for our involvement was the fact that Keyfund’s model of youth engagement had achieved strong results in the North East for delivering significant benefits to young people, particularly those from marginalised groups. The organisation had created a growing network of youth workers who were using their Keyfund training to deliver a consistent approach to developing skills in young people. However it had outgrown its systems and lacked core capacity. Our investment recognised the need for initial turnaround support which would then enable the organisation to refine its facilitator training strategy, develop a replication model and grow across and beyond the North East.

To set the standard for re-engaging disadvantaged young people in their communities by:
- Building Keyfund’s organisational capacity to deliver high quality training to facilitators
- Developing an effective replication model that would enable Keyfund to double the number of young people reached from 6,000 to more than 12,000 across the North East of England and to deepen the impact on those young people.
- Building the capacity of Keyfund to be able to influence the youth sector more widely

- The focus of our involvement to date has been to strengthen the infrastructure and capacity of Keyfund Federation as a platform for growth. This has involved building a senior team, designing and implementing new business systems and refining the business model. As a result, the first year saw a downturn in revenue and in the number of young people helped.
- The number of youth workers trained as new facilitators by Keyfund increased significantly, from 100 to 290.
