The cycle of poverty has existed for too long and it is clear that business as usual is not good enough. At Impetus we believe that if we are to make real headway in breaking the cycle of poverty we need to innovate ourselves and also support other effective, innovative charities and social enterprises.
Impetus and Ben & Jerry's - finding talent
together
Ben & Jerry's are on the hunt for some bright,
young social entrepreneurs in Europe and Impetus Chief Executive
Daniela Barone Soares is helping to find them!
Daniela will be on the panel of expert judges of the Ben &
Jerry's Join our Core Campaign, which is a competition run
in partnership with Ashoka and VSO to highlight the importance of
values-led businesses in the community. Watch a video
of Daniela speaking after the Guardian roundtable that launched
the initiative.
The overall winners will get a grant from Ben & Jerry's,
mentoring from Ashoka, a trip to Uganda with VSO, and will see
their winning ideas turned into a new Ben & Jerry's ice-cream
pint in 2013.

Impetus portfolio results highlight continuing growth of
its investee charities and social enterprises in
2010/11
Impetus Trust has announced its 2010/11 impact results: the
portfolio of organisations reported average annual growth in the
number of people helped of 30% and average annual income growth of
23%. In total, the organisations in Impetus's portfolio are helping
over 300,000 economically disadvantaged people.

Impetus Trust wins top industry award
Impetus has won the prestigious Europe's Top Turnaround Award 2011
in the "Third and Public Sector" category, for our venture
philanthropy work helping charities and social enterprises to
transform their organisations.
The accolade, awarded by the Institute for Turnaround (IFT),
recognises private and public companies, as well as governmental
and voluntary organisations across the UK that have managed to turn
organisations around in the face of financial or operational
difficulty.

Impetus - Sutton Early Years Initiative new
investments
The first three innovative and ambitious social ventures to be
invested in as part of the Impetus - Sutton
Early Years Initiative have been announced. Family Links, I CAN and Ripplez have been
selected for their evidence-based work with economically
disadvantaged children aged 0 - 5 and their parents, to help bridge
the gap in school readiness between those children and their
better-off peers.

Impetus and The Sutton Trust to manage £125m government
fund
Impetus and The Sutton Trust have been chosen to
establish a new major programme to boost the attainment of some of
the country's most disadvantaged children. The £125 million Education
Endowment Foundation (EEF) will be used to both initiate grants
and seek innovative and bold proposals from schools, teachers,
local authorities and charities to improve the performance of poor
pupils in the country's lowest performing schools.
