Impetus and education charity The Sutton Trust have been chosen to manage the £125 million Education Endowment Foundation, established by the Secretary of State for Education, to boost attainment of some of the country's most disadvantaged children. The grant was awarded through an open application process involving 14 other bidders.
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) will be used to initiate grants and seek innovative and bold proposals from schools, teachers, local authorities and charities to improve the performance of disadvantaged pupils in England's lowest performing schools. It is hoped that these projects, which will all be rigorously evaluated, will narrow attainment gaps in the classroom and thus create a lasting educational legacy for hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged children.
It is envisaged that as much as £200 million will be allocated in total over the 15-year lifetime of the programme - with the extra money coming from fundraising and investment returns.
Selection criteria and information on how to submit an application are available on the EEF website. We anticipate making the first tranche of grants in the autumn term 2011, and each term from then on.

Impetus involvement in the new Education Endowment Foundation complements the existing and ongoing work in our portfolio, and supports our commitment to helping many more people access the education, skills and jobs they need to lead independent lives.
