I chose to do pro bono for The Access Project because I wanted my skills to have a social impact. The key to delivering any successful project is to develop trust among the delivery team. In this case, the trust was inherent and our focus was clear – which made the project a great success.

Why the project was needed
The Access Project supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to get into university. Young people like Salimah and Zein. The Access Project had just written their IT strategy and wanted an external view on this, as well as support on how to approach commissioning for a new system. This required mapping out their requirements for the system.

What the project involved
PwC worked predominantly with the Impact Manager at The Access Project to assess their performance management requirements and translate this into the technical needs for the new IT system. As well as helping with the design of the project, PwC helped The Access Project to choose the right supplier.

Impact of the project
The Access Project were able to put out a tender that had clear objectives for their new IT system – the single biggest thing that they had ever bought. This meant that the final commissioned system fully supported their performance management needs and PwC left them with the tools and confidence to run their own process next time.
