Yes, a relay team can have only two people in it.

How do I get my racepack?

You need to collect this on the morning of the event. Nothing will be sent via post.

Will I be too slow?

We are proud to be an inclusive event with a range of entry options for competitors with a range of athletic abilities. Some of our competitors are very fast and some are slower. There is huge respect for everyone taking part.

The swim start is staggered for safety and to make this element less daunting for less experienced competitors.

We have medics on the course at all times.

Can spectators come?

Yes! We encourage you to bring your colleagues, friends and family to cheer you on. There’s a coffee van, ice cream van, a bar and a children’s tent with activities to keep everyone occupied, or bring your own picnic..

Can I bring my dog?

We love to welcome your furry friends in the event village. All dogs must be kept on a lead and be under control at all times. You are not permitted to race with your dog.

What is your refund policy?

Withdrawals: If you notify us via email within 14 days of the original order, a full refund minus the booking fee will be provided. If you notify us within 3 months of the event date, we will allow a refund (minus 20% admin fee). To withdraw, please email events@impetus.org.uk

Within 3 months of the event, we are unable to provide you with a refund, however can offer entry transfers, either for race type or competitor. Please email events@impetus.org.uk to amend your entry. We cannot offer deferrals to next year’s event.

Swimming

Do I need a wetsuit?

Wetsuits are banned when the water temperature is over 22 degrees and compulsory when the water is under 14 degrees, otherwise they are optional. In the past the water temperature has always made them optional. We recommend that you wear a wetsuit as they help with buoyancy and warmth.

Can I hire a wetsuit?

Wetsuits can be hired from Tri Wetsuit Hire. Please note that the deadline to book a wetsuit is 10th September.

Do I need a swimming hat?

Swimmers will be provided with a colour-coded swimming hat in their race pack.

Do I need goggles?

This is your choice, but we would recommend using them.

Is the water safe?

Numerous tests are conducted up to and on the race day to ensure the water is safe to swim in. Algae growth is discouraged by using an underwater ultrasound system and green colouring in the water.

Cycling

Can I hire a bike?

Bikes can be hired from On Your Bike who will be present on the day and can deliver your bike to the site. The deadline to hire a bike is 6th September.

What bike should I use?

Road bikes are more suited to triathlons and duathlon events. You can use a mountain bike but it may be worth considering changing your tyres to road tyres. We do not allow e-bikes.

Do you allow drafting?

This is a non-drafting triathlon. Cyclists must maintain a forward distance of 10 metres between each other at all times except when overtaking. It is the responsibility of the overtaken rider to drop back to maintain this gap.

Fundraising

How much do I have to raise?

We have a fundraising ask of £400 for individuals and £1,000 for teams. All funds raised support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in school, in work and in life.

Can I raise money for a different charity?

The Impetus Triathlon is exclusively in aid of Impetus and we don’t allow our competitors to raise money for other charities.

Whilst we know that there are many causes and charities which are dear to our competitors’ hearts, we rely on our competitors’ fundraising to ensure the event is viable.

What happens if I don't reach my fundraising target?

Your fundraising target is a key part of your commitment to taking part in the Impetus Triathlon. We give masses of support, ideas and tools. It’s achievable! We know it is – hundreds of competitors have done it before you. Ultimately though we will ask you to top up your fundraising yourself if necessary to reach your target.
