Pro Bono Supporter Code of Conduct

Thank you for joining the Impetus Pro Bono Supporter Network.

We have laid out the following expectations for our pro bono programme to ensure projects are successful and valuable for all parties.

Our underlying beliefs

Working in partnership with our charities (portfolio partners) is a core part of the Impetus model. We believe that by collaborating across charity, corporate and philanthropic sectors, and learning from each-other, we unlock potential for charity partners, and deliver better outcomes for more young people with experience of poverty.

Expectations for Pro Bono supporters

I understand that projects are matched according to the charity partner’s needs, my/our relevant skills and experience, availability, interests, and any other attributes that are relevant to making the project successful.

At the kick-off meeting/chemistry check, I/we will do our best to establish a shared understanding of the charity’s needs, the project scope and objectives, and what each party will contribute. We will agree the scope, outputs, timescales, availability, ways of working, support arrangements, check-in frequency and the process for raising issues or changing the plan. Where anything is unclear, I/we will ask for clarification and raise any concerns promptly with my Impetus contact

Throughout the engagement, I/we will treat the charity as an equal partner; work professionally and within the agreed scope; honour commitments; communicate clearly and promptly; respect the charity’s time, resources and expertise; use respectful and strength-based language.

I/we will approach the engagement with a learning mindset, invite feedback and reflect on it. I/we will participate in any post-project debriefs and complete a survey on my experience. I/we will uphold boundaries, ensure the work is sustainable for both parties and avoid overstepping into areas the charity or Impetus has not requested or approved.

What you can expect from Impetus

Impetus will ensure you are provided with a Project Brief with indicative timescales and time commitments that has been aligned with the portfolio partner team and has been reviewed by the Impetus pro bono lead. You will always have a minimum of one named contact at Impetus to support the engagement; they will provide background insight and context on the charity partner, highlighting particular areas you need to be aware of such as previous negative experiences or current organisational challenges.

Impetus will ensure the portfolio partner is prepared and has sufficient resources to complete the project on time.

Impetus will be on hand to troubleshoot and problem solve throughout the engagement and can provide further information and background reading to support the assignment.
