Frequently Asked Questions

The Impetus Relay is a four-hour running and walking challenge taking place on Saturday 12th September 2026. Participants compete on a 2.5km loop, aiming to cover as much distance as possible either individually or as part of a team, while raising vital funds for Impetus.

  • Date: Saturday 12th September 2026
  • Location: Clapham Common, London
  • Event village open: 08:00 to 16:00
  • Race time: 10:00 to 14:00

Anyone can take part. No prior experience is required. The event is suitable for all fitness levels, and individuals could run or walk anything from 2.5km up to 50km.

It can be but it does not have to be. Some participants will aim for marathon or ultra distances, while others will take part for fun, fitness and fundraising. The Relay is designed to support both competitive and social teams.

No. The Relay is completely flexible. For example:

  • One teammate could run for just 10 minutes
  • Others might run longer stints
  • Teams can rotate evenly or unevenly
  • You and your team do not have to be on the course for the full four hours, you can take breaks
  • You can rotate multiple times during the four hours

There is no minimum or maximum time per person. All time spent on the course counts toward your total distance.

After 11 successful years and over £4 million raised, we decided to evolve the event to:

  • Reduce rising logistics costs
  • Improve accessibility by moving to a London location
  • Remove barriers created by the swimming element
  • Reflect changing sporting trends, particularly the growth of relay running events

The Relay keeps the challenge and fundraising ambition, while opening the event up to many more participants.
